Company Profile

The company's flagship product, Dependable Rights Manager (DRM), handles the full licensing process, from development and design, through approval, retail sales, compliance and renewal. It saves licensors, licensees and agents time and money by automating all the tasks involved in implementing and overseeing a licensing program, improving communications among departments, and helping top management make better and faster decisions.

"[Implementing Dependable Rights Manager] really got us organized, not only in setting up the system but in setting up the process," says Maureen Gottschall, CFO of San Francisco-based licensing agency Dimensional Branding. "It's incredibly efficient. Once the heavy lifting is done, it really becomes automatic." The product results in a range of financial benefits to clients, not only due to the time and cost savings, but because companies that use DRM are able to stay on top of cash flows and catch problems before they happen.

DSI's founder, Marty Malysz, began automating music licensing operations in 1989 with Gruener Software Engineering, later incorporating in 1994 as Right Track Solutions, Inc. Right Track became the industry leader in copyright licensing management systems, having offices in London and Los Angeles and overseeing over 300 implementations worldwide. The company was sold to PLX Systems, a venture capital-funded patent-valuation firm, in 2002. Marty met Holly Royer, now DSI's Director of Client Services, while selling a Right Track consumer product licensing system to Primedia, where she was VP of licensing operations.

In January 2005, Marty joined with several other licensing industry experts to develop Dependable Rights Manager, targeting consumer product operations to help licensors, agents and licensees optimize licensing transactions associated with trademarks and copyrights. The company's mission is to enhance and improve licensing organizations' transaction processes through automation, and to provide dependable and reliable customer service.

DSI is continuously innovating through continued product development headed up by Zeljko Rakocevic, DSI's Chief Technology Officer. After debuting DRM in June 2005 at the Licensing International trade show, DSI initially released the product to U.S.-based licensors and agents in July 2005 and U.S.-based licensees in October 2005. The latest incarnation brings a wealth of updates to licensors, licensees and agents, including advances in product approval processing and international financial transactions. DSI has also recently introduced a new "Content Library" module to support the use of stored graphics, allowing the exchange of preapproved images, online style guides and product shots.

Automating the contract and royalty management process with Dependable Rights Manager enables clients to easily generate monthly reports, invoices and reminders; monitor licensees' royalty and guarantee payment status; and manage all aspects of their own and their clients' financials. All members of an organization, along with their business partners, have access to contracts and other information anytime, anywhere, which helps not only the financial, accounting and contract staff, but sales, marketing and product development as well-not to mention upper management.

"The application is literally in use on all computers of our agency all day long, as it is intricately involved in all our licensing operations," says David Gebel, Managing Director of Access Licensing Group, a Los Angeles-based licensing agency and DSI client.

DSI is headed by a stable and experienced management team. Marty, DSI's President, has had a 25-year career in computer and software sales management, Zeljko has 25 years' experience in enterprise application software development, and Holly has 10 years in licensing financial management operations.

That experience has allowed Dependable Solutions to create a product that adds value to any licensing organization. As client Athol Lumby, CFO of the Australian licensing company Velocity Brand Management, explains, "DSI has allowed us to streamline all programs, better use resources, increase productivity and dramatically improve reporting capabilities."

DSI has full time staff in Los Angeles, Dallas and Belgrade, with additional consultants in New York and throughout the United States. The company's current client base includes licensors, agents and licensees in Australia, USA, Canada and the United Kingdom, including notable names such as Sanrio, Pokémon, Elvis Presley, GModelo (Corona), Yamaha, Velocity Brand Management, Gator Group, Dimensional Branding and NMR Distribution.
