Energizer Holdings, Inc.

Energizer Holdings, Inc. headquartered in St. Louis, MO, is one of the world's largest manufacturers of primary batteries, portable flashlights and lanterns. Energizer is a global leader in the dynamic business of providing power solutions with a full portfolio of products including Energizer® brand battery products such as Energizer® EcoAdvanced™; Energizer MAX®; Energizer® Ultimate Lithium™; Energizer Recharge® batteries and charging systems; and portable flashlights and lanterns. In 2016, Energizer acquired HandStands Holding Corporation, a leading designer and marketer of automotive fragrance and appearance products. HandStands offers innovative products from recognized brands such as Refresh Your Car!®, California Scents®, Driven®, Bahama & Co.®, LEXOL® and Eagle One®.

Challenge:

Energizer has licensed its Energizer and Eveready brands for years, but in 2011, the never-ending email strings and detailed Excel files could no longer keep up with the growing list of company’s contracts. Dan Tardiff, Assistant Manager of Global Licensing, explained, “We would be going crazy if we were working the way we were before (DSI).” With licensees all over the world, the team at Energizer Holdings carefully uses their time to track and manage complex processes. “The number of contract submissions has doubled in the last year,” reported Tardiff. “Having a small, dedicated team means we have to stay on top of everything.”

DSI’s Solution:

After training and testing, Energizer went live with Dependable Rights Manager (DRM) in 2011. The Global Brand Licensing team utilizes the system for product, packaging, and marketing material development, and they have recently implemented the Contract Workflow module. The active management of SKUs, documentation distribution with licensed partners, and internally sharing large files in a secure environment allows the licensing team to optimize the use of their time where it is needed most. In addition to the management software, Tardiff highlighted the strength of having a DSI client service representative who knows the inner workings of their operations and who supports the team with training and challenges as they arise. “The relationship we have with our account manager is a huge asset and continues to be one of the reasons we work with Dependable Solutions,” says Tardiff.
 

Added Benefits:

Through the years of using DRM and working with DSI, Energizer points out two specific benefits that stand out as going far beyond functionality purposes. For one, Tardiff explained how accountability for partner agencies has become a crucial component of their team’s work. In order to ensure the highest level of quality products, Energizer uses the DRM system as an accountability tool to manage and ensure business is being conducted as it should. “DRM can be used as an investigative tool to provide an extra layer of security to crosscheck information to flush out what is correct.” Additionally, the ability to invest and grow the software is an added benefit for Energizer. With six years’ worth of information and rapid company growth, the investment in the system has freed up the team to focus on growing their business.
